Bring your Still Life to Life with Cathy Pearce’s 12 Month Still Life Pastel Academy Course

Master Still Life with Cathy Pearce in this huge course over on Pastel Academy. Above is a taster of the brilliant tuition from Cathy.

My aim is to break down the huge genre of still life into little chunks that you can practice and perfect each month. By month 12 you will easily compose your own still life and paint it with confidence in pastel. Still life is the perfect excuse for observational work… essential practice to improve your art skills generally and you will always have a subject to inspire you.

You can enjoy this and dozens of other pastel courses over at the Pastel Academy for £19.99/month and you can get your first month for just £1.

My Heart Leaps Up When I Behold A Rainbow In The Sky

The first difficulty in depicting a rainbow in pastel is not the rainbow itself but rather the treatment of the pastel dust in the underlying layers so that the beauty of the rainbow’s colours sit resplendent on top.

Dexterity and Mark Making

How we use and hold our pastels will determine what amazing marks we will make. Eventually, with practice and discovery through play, this will create our style.

Breaking Pastels

Who would believe what possibilities and potential lie inside these neatly wrapped lozenges of colour? They are essentially chunks of pure dry pigment, more intense in colour than any tube of paint.

Announcing New Associate Artists!

In May we held a recruitment exercise for new Associate Artists and we were overwhelmed with the number of applications. So much so we will have 2 groups of new artists. Our 2nd group will be announced in August 2020.

Gold Splashes Through the Dark Oaks

With a grin I sometimes introduce myself as the mad lady who paints the hill. Roundway Hill near Devizes in Wiltshire and the surrounding fields are my subject as I love to observe them every day.

Tips From My First Art Fair Experience

I took the plunge in 2022 and did my first art fair with over 100 artists, at Goodwood Racecourse.  It felt like a big leap as previously I had only done small local craft/art events as being an introvert I find ‘putting myself out there’ a scary experience.

How long did it take?

The question that every artist hears at some point is “How long did it take you to paint this?”.  It can be a very complex question to answer.  Is the inquiry to determine the financial value of the piece?  Does the answer somehow determine the quality of the painting?
