Introduction To Soft Pastels

Beginners Soft Pastel Tips from Rebecca de Mendonça. If you’re new to soft pastels or have always wanted to try, this free PDF guide will help you Get Started.

This colourful guide covers all the basics, including what surface to work on, how to set up your workspace and how to clean and look after your pastels.

Rebecca then shows you how versatile soft pastels can be, helping you to master various techniques like Smudging, Hatching and Twisting.

Artist Set

'This set is designed for those wanting to steer their work out of the monochrome and into colour. It will help you see more values in your highlights, midtones and shadows. Combined with your existing collection this set will ensure you have the right shades and tints for every lighting.'

Blendable

Because we use the best ingredients, our pastels have superior blending capabilities, used wet or dry.

Soft and Smooth

With careful use of binder, our pastels are often described as 'smooth as butter' and need no encouragement to leave their mark.

Highly Pigmented

We use a high percentage of traditional pigments for the deepest colouration.

Lightfast

Colour that stands the test of time.

Handmade

Made, labelled and packed completely by hand. No extrusion.

Colourful Chronicles

Along with running my art business, I have been busy volunteering and visiting schools to promote the peaceful practice of pastel art for our primary school students.

In April last year we ventured into the North York Moors to the famous view known in these parts as ‘The Hole of Horcum’.
My knowledge of the North York Moors is scant at best! My go to locations have tended to be the Yorkshire Dales, given their proximity to Harrogate where I live.
As an artist you are something of an itinerant hobo who is free to ride the box cars between all sorts of, often temporary, stations.
