Materials

I took these sgraffito tools with me in my pockets, 6 coloured pencils, a pencil sharpener, a mini hand whisk, a metal paper clip, a couple of boards each taped with a piece of Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper and a couple of clips to keep the boards together whilst I work.
Back in the studio I chose a few Unison Colour pastels from the photo I took of my chosen view.

The first image shows the sgraffito marks made on the paper whilst outside on my inspirational walk. I used 5 colours of coloured pencil to suggest the foliage, the paper clip for the little metal gate and the mini hand whisk for the textured, twisted hawthorn trunks and branches.

The second image shows the completed painting after adding gentle layers of pastel back at home in my studio.
