About:

Born in Russia, grown up in East Siberia, Elena spent her early years in Germany and Latvia and moved to Germany in 2003.

Graduated from Irkutsk Regional Youth Art School in Russia with a certificate of excellence where she received classical art training, she went on to do two Master degrees in languages and literatures, and then to work as a teacher and translator for 15 years.

It was while living in England in 2014 that Elena joined a local art society and started exhibiting with them. Having won the society’s Annual Award, Elena took time out from teaching and spent a year attending art classes at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts in Maidenhead, UK. There, she had her first pastel classes with the British artist Jo Hall, SGFA.

In 2015, Elena and her family moved to Vienna, Austria, where she continued finding her way back to art. Since 2017, Elena has been a full-time artist. Having moved to Malta in 2017, she attended the portrait masterclass with British artist Gareth Reid and life drawing classes with Maltese artist and printmaker Jesmond Vassallo.

In 2019, Elena and her family moved back to Germany where she is currently living and working. Elena’s multicultural and multilingual experience has influenced her artistic choice of themes, such as lost identities, displacement, human fears, memory and time.

    Fixative or NO Fixative?

In most cases, I don't use any fixative but sometimes I do, for example, when I work quite thickly with pastel marks. In this case, I might only spray these particular areas.

Colour Chart Guidance

We believe the colours in our web based colour chart are a faithful representation of our pastel range. But with any colours portrayed on the internet, there’s a whole heap of variables which mean that what you see, may not be what we see. That said, there’s some things that can be done to mitigate some of the variance.

Mobile phone and tablet screens tend to be pretty good for colour, so they’re always worth using, when viewing our colour chart.

We hate to say it, but cheaper computer displays, including laptops, can be rather hit and miss, in both colour and contrast, so they might not reveal the depth of the colour, as well as the true tone.

If you’re really keen on getting your computer up to speed on colour representation, you can use a calibration device to reach your display's fullest potential.

With all that said, if you think we’re way off the mark with any of the colours then, by all means let us know, and we’ll give it another shot.
