About:

A graduate of Grays School of Art, Aberdeen, Lynn Howarth worked in the Graphic Design industry until 2012 when she started to draw and paint full time committing fully to her art career in the summer of that year.

Since then, her work has steadily gained recognition with many galleries across Scotland stocking her vibrant work. She exhibits regularly in both solo and mixed shows and has won many awards including the Derwent/WH Smith sketch off prize and several awards from the Pastel Guild of Europe. Lynn has also had her work published in three art books; one on portraiture, one on pastels for which she wrote the foreword and a book on women in art. She has provided artworks for the covers of two books on open water swimming this year.

She works primarily in pastel and charcoal as she loves the immediacy and tactility of those mediums and her works are collected by international art collectors worldwide. Her subject matter varies but she finds she is particularly drawn to portraiture and figurative works due to her love of life drawing which was instilled during her time studying at Grays. She has recently returned to painting landscapes and enjoys the challenges presented when working en plein air.

She teaches several classes at Strathclyde University’s Centre for Life Long Learning and also teaches a Purely Pastels class at a private art school in Glasgow and runs pastel workshops from her studio in Stepps, Glasgow. Lynn is also often asked to give demonstrations of pastel techniques at various art groups around Scotland and undertakes privately commissioned work.

Colour Chart Guidance

We believe the colours in our web based colour chart are a faithful representation of our pastel range. But with any colours portrayed on the internet, there’s a whole heap of variables which mean that what you see, may not be what we see. That said, there’s some things that can be done to mitigate some of the variance.

Mobile phone and tablet screens tend to be pretty good for colour, so they’re always worth using, when viewing our colour chart.

We hate to say it, but cheaper computer displays, including laptops, can be rather hit and miss, in both colour and contrast, so they might not reveal the depth of the colour, as well as the true tone.

If you’re really keen on getting your computer up to speed on colour representation, you can use a calibration device to reach your display's fullest potential.

With all that said, if you think we’re way off the mark with any of the colours then, by all means let us know, and we’ll give it another shot.
