Born in Laredo, Texas, Neva grew up not far from there in the small ranching town of Hebbronville. She spent her early years reading books, riding horses and climbing trees.
Neva’s work is featured in juried exhibitions on National and International levels, including the 16th Annual Pastel 100 Competition where she received an Honorable Mention Award.
Neva’s work has also been featured in the Pastel Society of America’s 2014 and 2018 Annual Juried Exhibits “Enduring Brilliance” at the National Arts Club in New York, NY and in the prestigious IAPS 2016 and 2018 Juried Exhibitions.
Neva was invited to participate in the Annual International Contemporary Art Exhibitions organized and offered by Art Residence Pro Vobis—Assisi, where her paintings were featured in the Sala della Volte in Piazza del Comune, Assisi, Italy.
Neva is an active member of the Pastel Society of America, the Pastel Guild of Europe and is the co-ambassador for the Texas Gulf Coast Region and Rio Grande Valley for the Portrait Society of America. She recently held her first solo exhibition at The Nave Museum in Victoria, Texas.
An award-winning artist in both watercolor and pastel, Neva currently resides with her husband, Rick, in the Coastal Bend Region of Texas.
Neva does a bit of recycling with old artwork that didn't make the cut. She goes through the process, step by step, of washing off the old pigment, and utilising the remaining marks, which are almost artwork in themselves!
I started painting again back in about 2008. I say “again,” because I used to paint way back in 1972-74. Then I stopped. Why did I stop? Because I got married and well – life.
I was just ready to go somewhere new and exotic. I don’t even remember how I happened upon this particular retreat, but one day there it was, and I thought about it for only a hot minute before signing up.
I was recently contacted by Gaye Sekula, a co-ambassador for South Texas for the Portrait Society of America (PSoA). She asked for my help in setting up a “Face-off” event on behalf of PSoA here in Corpus Christi, Texas.
