Plein air painting with Unison Colour pastels.
After being blown away and rained off at Neist Point, we headed back inland to Portree, the capital of Skye and its largest town, visited each year by many tourists, as well as artists and photographers.
The weather was calmer here (for a time!), for our last painting on Skye. Watch me battle plein air against time – it was already late afternoon when we set up (beside a big bin!) looking over the Quayside with its picturesque colourful buildings and usual (for Skye) magnificent mountains backdrop. Time wasn’t the only issue – I’m not a great fan of painting architecture so watch how I deal with painting the buildings and, finally, will the rain hold off long enough for a decent painting to be created?
Using Unison Colour pastels on SAIT P500 sanded paper, see how I develop the painting through to completion back in the studio, taking time to make corrections but still relying on memory of being outside in front of the scene.
Thanks again to my filmmaker, Tony Parkin, of T.P. Visuals for his technical skills and for risking his equipment to the weather!

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of these in this series MoodieSkye. Brilliant demonstrations and inspiring. Thank you to Andrew Moodie and his videographer and Unison for being behind it.
