PLEIN AIR PAINTING WITH UNISON COLOUR PASTELS
See me painting outside on the Isle of Skye with Unison Colour pastels, seeking to capture the beauty of the landscape at Sligachan. See how I consider how the composition will lead the viewer’s eye through the scene. And how I work out which new pastels I need to buy from Unison Colour! Working on Black Sanded SAIT P500 which holds the pastel really well.
This landscape is, as I mention in the video, like being in another world. The bleakness of the moors, devoid of trees, but with rocks, rivers and mountains, all apparently strategically placed for the benefit of artists and photographers. Add to this the oranges and reds of Autumn to create a really stunning vista. I had painted here on the previous day, but decided I had to come back for more!
Sligachan is famous for its beauty, providing a wonderful viewpoint for the Black Cuillan mountains, featured in this video. Fortunately, the rain held off just long enough, and the sun made a sufficiently misty appearance, to allow for a really nice painting experience over the course of around 1.5 hours.
Thanks to my fillmmaker, Tony, of T.P. Visuals who somehow managed not to step into any pools of mud or trip over any rocks while filming – a real pro!
