In this tutorial Associate Artist, Caitlin Heslop, will talk you through how to draw from a still life set up. She will demonstrate how she creates her set up, how she selects colours, lead you through some warm up compositional drawings, and demonstrate a still life drawing using pastel. You can watch time lapse videos of her setting up her scene and creating her drawing to watch her progress.

Creating a still life set up
When creating your still life set up it can be helpful to use objects that are a range of heights (for example, a jug, a glass, a piece of fruit). Including a piece of fabric can help to bring the objects together so that they feel like an intentional composition.
Choosing your colours
Caitlin will talk through the process of choosing your colours. If you have a limited selection of pastels, she suggests that using an abstract colour palette can work well.
