As a relatively young artist, I have found that there is an unspoken expectation to identify with one specific medium, one style, and one subject matter. Of course, people meander a little bit, but generally it feels like those that are more competent and ambitious find their artistic lane and stick in it.
As an artist, every big event is potentially siesmic on the emotions and what we produce and ordinarily the go to would be to put our feelings down on paper.
As a professional artist my work now focuses primarily on the landscape and in a very loose, free and expressive way with mixed media and pastel and is always evolving.
I love being outside, especially on some rugged coastline or remote glen in the hills and more often than not I’m driven to put something of the experience down on paper.
Ever sit there and hope for something inspirational to show up right in front of you? Or have people asked you what inspired you to create a piece of artwork?
I have worked for Unison Colour since 2015 & I absolutely love my job. It mainly involves being an Account Manager for our many Associate Artists. However, I do not draw or paint!
I have been fascinated by colour for as long as I can remember. Beautiful colours, vibrant ones or soothing are surprising and fun.
Home schooling is tough, so having an opportunity to take my 16 year-old daughter away from her screen to do something creative wasn’t a hard sell!
It’s fair to say that my artistic endeavours have been in a state of deep hibernation for more than a year so when my friend suggested doing this challenge with her, I thought maybe this is what I need.
I am so glad I did this challenge, and I would urge anyone, however nervous to sign up to any future ones, I certainly will.
I have always had an interest in drawing, particularly realism. Bringing my subjects to life is always a challenge and very rewarding.
