Our senses have evolved to filter out and ignore the majority of information around us. Evolution is a very efficient thing; it doesn’t tend to waste energy developing anything that’s not essential to an organism.

I get a lot of comments like “wow, looks like a photo”, but with a closer look it’s not so close to the reference after all. My goal is not to recreate the photo in all the details.
I recently challenged myself to create a saltmarsh beach painting using a more vibrant pallet. I had noticed that many pastel painters used an underpainting to create a finished piece that glowed with colour. So, I set off to achieve the same result.
Iceland is a unique and spiritual country bursting with inspiration for artists. I was lucky enough to travel there in December, 2021 and on my return I built a small body of work based on this fantastic experience
